Hmm.
Being in a society that is so (un)conciously dominated by Christianity, one tends to either be a Christian, or an atheist.
(the latter of which is developing more and more as a way of life. hmm)
so where do I stand?
As a Buddhist (though not a very good one, but nonetheless), we tolerate and accept all religions so long as they promote peace and not evil
...or sth like that
The most debatable topics for the ethics war are homosexuality, abortion, and the existence of religion. at all

On homosexuality, we had a discussion about this with Master Tige in Buddhist Camp (years and years ago)
the stance is that it's frowned upon, but not the "EBILLLL" stance of Christianity
me, I believe that if it's love, who cares?

On abortion, it's also frowned upon
but for a branch of Buddhism that stems mostly from China, with the One-Child policy and all, it's kinda unavoidable at times
we have ceremonies for the spirits of the fet...i? fetuses?
my could-have-been brother is one of them
me, I think that in the first place, one should have been more careful to not get preggers in the first place
but that if one really couldn't raise the child in a relatively comfortable situation, don't do it
again, why do we need licenses for guns, but not procreation?
guns don't kill people, people kill people

On religion... I don't get what the fuss is, if someone's going to be a atheist, stop pestering them
People can choose to burn in hell (for Christians) or be reincarnated as something worse (for Buddhists) if they want
doesn't mean you cross your arms and pretend you don't know them
but if after reasonable persuasion in a non-harassing way, they still say no, don't bug them
that'll probably cause them to sin more >__>
But I don't think that religion is a total waste of time (obviously)
even if one takes it at face value, religion is a source of comfort for many
people who believe in a religion tend to be happier
One can be a cynic and say "what a materialistic way to see a spiritual thing", but cynics often aren't very happy people
but if it makes one happier to be an atheist, go ahead
But I think most people are actually agnostics, but they just don't know what the word means =)



Moving onto something that shouldn't be tied to religion, but often is: politics
oh gawd
I don't like the political spectrum
why can't we have a circle?
I like some ideas of the Liberals, and some of the Conservatives; same goes for level of hate
unfortunately, picking a side with similar interests does not mean that side is the best for the current government
I laugh and point at failures more than I applaud successes because there are just more of the former >__>
and because I'm a cynic

This disaster has unified so many Chinese people across the globe
Something good can come out of something so terrible

My cousin's studying in a university there, and thank god they're fine
Last we heard they were living in tents in case the building collapses
But many other students died there
Students whose parents and grandparents looked to as their only hope
(one child policy and all)
In Chinese we call it "White-haired seeing black-haired off" [...I can't translate]
There are also reports of parents who have died protecting their young
It's sad to see a 3 year-old girl say "mom died"
Of course, this hits me harder than other disasters because it happened in China
(can't help it)
Buy hey, at least it means I have some heart, right?

Putting my iTunes playlist to play a random song from my whole collection is doing strange things to my mood.
Maybe I'll go make something... or do my homework....mah

UPDATE:
I GOT INTO EXPLORE =D
AND IN THE SAME PROGRAM AS JESS =DD

So, today was our first fund raising event.
All things considering, it was quite a small operation consisting of:
Alice
Me
and supported by:
Kelly's band
Various people whose efforts we had no knowledge of
Confusing? What made you think that?

It was a pretty good combo, seeing as how Kelly's band (called Fault Fire) got a good show and could promote themselves.
For us, we got the crowd to, if not donate to UNICEF, know that there was a campaign out there against malaria.

The skirts were to catch people's attention, stop asking.

The fun part was when we realised that because Mari didn't tape the bottom of the donation box completely, coins were getting caught in between the bottom flaps. Then quarters started leaking through the crack between the tapes. Solution: more tape!
It was quite a rush, since a) that's how Mari (whose idea it was to do this) works and b) time moved faster than we thought.

In the end, we raised almost $200, which exceeded what I hoped for (I'd like to be optimistic, thank you).
That's 20 nets to save 20 families for 5 years, people~
So thank you to all who donated, and thank you for those who wanted to but couldn't =)

We did experience the bitterness of doing something that the success of which depended solely on the kindness of people.
Yes, we know that some of them could have donated but didn't, but that's ok. What was not was when people insulted us for doing something like this.
Thankfully, there were only a few, and many people rummaged in their pockets for loose change.

Though the amount wasn't exceedingly great for a school of 2000 students, we've still done our best as not particularly popular people not being backed by a major club.
For everyone who saw us, thank you for the smiles and encouragement, it made the day that much brighter. <3

New tidings have come in:
They couldn't fix the old one
Which means:

I kinda had my heart set on the Creative Zen 8GB but I wasn't going to refuse a "free" upgraded iPod.
I need the money for my Laruku fund =)
However, Futureshop smartened up and stopped having 3 year warranties for iPods, though.
So when my iPod breaks in two years, I'll definitely be looking at something other than an iPod.

...it ain't going smoothly.
My 20GB fourth generation iPod has been in and out for repairs for the last few months. Which is ok, since I'm under a three-year warranty.
Unfortunately, said warranty expires in May of this year and I just sent it in for a hard drive problem which will probably result in a new hard drive.
Again.

The photos won't be updated on devART as often as flickr now, as I like flickr a lot better than dev for uploading and interface
